I had the compressor, AC receiver drier, condenser, all o-rings replaced and had the system recharged. The clutch seems to be working as it should. The only part I have that was not installed was the expansion valve. At an idle the a/c air is slightly cooler than the outside temp (and I am in southern cal.). I have to be on the freeway for the system to perform as I think it should. Any Ideas?
I over filled my car’s a/c system with 134a now the compressor is locked up, whines and smokes if I turn on the a/c for more than 5 seconds. If I drain the system myself will that disengage the clutch and bring it back to normal or do i need to spring for an all new compressor?
New compressor, expansion valve, receiver/dryer, fully serviced. Gauge psi 40/250 and working great, very cool air, suddenly belt starts squealing. Clutch is engaged but compressor acts like it either can’t suck in or push out. System has been completely flushed three times. Good airflow through condensor and evaporator. At my wits end.
What needs to be replaced when changing out compressor on vehicle? Want to get a better idea on what I am being charged for when taking vehicle to mechanic shop.. I understand compressor will need to be changed which comes with clutch attached to it.. I understand orifice plate will need to be changed also and dryer. What other parts are there to a air conditioner cooling system on a vehicle?
The compressor mysteriously shuts off from time to time and it starts blowing hot air. The voltage going to the compressor goes to 0 when this problem is occurring. I have changed the clutch cycling switch on the dryer. No change. The compressor almost always works when the outside air temp is very hot, but tends not to work when the air is just warm (like a summer night). I have the 5.0 liter engine. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
I’ve changed the fuse numerous times, but still no luck. The compressor clutch turns smooth if I turn it by hand. There are no leaks of any kind and the system is charged. I’ve checked the relays and they work fine. I’m thinking is the compressor going bad, but not sure, please help!
So I took my car to Firestone today to get my air conditioning fixed – they quoted me 00.00 to get it fixed.
980.00 in parts, around 800 for labor.
They say that I need a new AC compressor with clutch, a dryer and a condensor.
I came online to check out the parts price and unless I’m missing some parts it seems like the parts should actually cost about half of what firestone is wanting to charge me for them.
What’s the deal? Also, 800 bucks in labor? They’re going to charge 100 bucks an hour for 8 hours of work?
Can someone offer some advice for me on how to go to a garage and not get ripped off?
The reason I need to get the air conditioning fixed is that the belt was disconnected when I bought the car. Now I see why they never got it fixed
Took my 2000 Lincoln Ls to a local shop I take my cars to. The intent was to recharge my AC, the gauge showed it had no freon. So 3 can of freon later, it continued to blow hot air. The compressor and clutch were working but no cold air. The shop feels although the compressor is working, it’s not doing enough to produce cold air. A new compressor is suggested, which is expensive on this car. Supposedly, it’s strongly suggested a new condenser and dryer should be purchase as well or warranty on new compressor will be void. Something about this particular system cannot be coompletely flushed so all new is practically demanded. Although this shop has done great work for me, they’ve miscalculated a few times as anyone would I guess. I believe I should confirm this at dealer before I start replacing parts. What is your take on this.
To Paul: The shop suspects compressor is leaking but they still seemed to be a little stumped when stating this.
The system is full of freon but the clutch on the compressor isn’t kicking in. I think it might be a fuse because it worked fine last summer and now doesn’t work at all.
